Summer Adventures

Well, my intent to blog about the “Adventure of the Week” has failed.  But I did try/do/enjoy some new things this summer.  Here are a few of those:

Memorial Day Trip to North Carolina. This was my “first” adventure at the start of
summer.  We spent the weekend with 2 of our favorite Arlington couples.  The cabin we stayed at was in the mountains (thanks to Laura’s family), and when I say in the mountains…that’s exactly what I mean.  We did a lot of hiking.  I admit I was initially nervous to hike because I was not in shape.  But I loved every minute of it. Well almost every minute ;)

Trip to Grand Mart.  I heard a lot about this international grocery store, but I had never made the trek.  I went to get lemons and limes for a center piece we were doing for a friends baby shower. Let’s just say, Grand Mart is definitely an adventure, and they have
VERY cheap lemons and limes.

Made Pom  Poms.  I know these are kind of  “yesterday”, but I also made them for the first time.  Super easy.  Super cute.  Of course I did not  take ANY pictures.

Made a going away journal. I’ve made a few of these for baby showers etc.  I adapted them from this template, but I’ve gotten it down to a science of less than 2 hours start to finish.

Tried new  cupcakes at Buzz.  Branched out from  our staples and went with cookie dough and lemon rhubarb.  Yum!

Went to 3 baby showers.  Oh wait this isn’t new for me. :)

Tried a  new spot for DC Fireworks. Air Force Memorial

Got new  Toms.  I had to post these because I heart them so much.

Read a couple of books for book clubs, etc.

Room- Enjoyed this, but it gets a little slow at the end.  And it’s challenging to adapt at first because it is written from a 5 year olds perspective.

Ella Minnow Pea- light summer reading, my choice for book club.  There really isn’t a plot, but it’s good if you want a book that is brain teaser wordy and doesn’t require much attention.

Darcy’s Passions- A gift from my dear cousin.  Mr. Darcy’s perspective on his love with Elizabeth Bennett.  I am  in love with all things Pride & Prejudice, so this book was very  fascinating to me.  I did not agree with her portrayal of some of Darcy, but I was hooked reading it just to get what he  was thinking, much like the first time when I read Pride and Prejudice.  But, unfortunately, the last quarter of the book was the author making up an extended version of the story.  That part was a little much and too romance
novel-like for my taste.

Vacationed at Myrtle Beach. This is the first real vacation we have taken since we’ve
been married.  It was amazing.  I prayed for very specific things in our hotel room and the Lord blessed with all of it! We spent our days by the pool, had a day trip in Charleston, went to the beach, ate some crazy food at Hymans, went to a plantation, went to a
conservriotic show (that’s conservative/patriot in one word) and went outlet
shopping.  We loved every minute of it.  But, again, I didn’t take very many
pictures to prove we actually went on this trip.

Started reading a fashion blog and got a little more into style.  After reading a friends blog about 30 for 30 remix, I started checking out Kendi Everyday.
Love her style!  It’s not necessarily my own, but she has great ideas and she inspires me to “try” a little more. (more in depth blog on this to come)

Decked my hubs out in new duds.  Alls I can say is he cracks me up in these boat shoes and aviators.

Tried some new recipes. One of these was veggie lasagna, which was pretty good. I used whole wheat pasta instead of gluten free lasagna noodles.

Went to a concert and got some new music. Kindlewood.  Love it, check them
out.  Friends/former student of Chris.

So that’s it for now…a brief summary of my summer since I did not post much along the way.  Maybe I’ll try to make this a monthly thing.
